Boxing Kitten Resort 2010 Collection + I WON!!

I just came across the Resort Collection by Boxing Kitten on True Queen (a fab blog i just discovered). The Resort collection by Maya lake, owner of Boxing Kitten exudes femininity, fun and funk.I was blown away by the burst of colors and the fact that the Ankara ( a fabric that is widely used in Africa and is very much part of our culture) was used, made me fall deeply for this collection. Check out some of the pieces below.

It's Naima winner of ANTM 4

This is the dress Solange wore sometime last week...see post here

  1. I think my only problem with boxing kitten is the disregard for where the Ankara fabric originated from, yes the Dutch make it but the designs are purely African, the dutch will tell u that they learnt it from the west African women textile makers so not only is the Ankara fabric worn by Africans, it is an African fabric. I hate when people don't do proper research and put up rubbish on their website as fact but do I blame her? NO! we as Africans have the "I don't care attitude" thereby giving people the power to distort our history. I am sorry I went political. She has a fab collection :)

  2. Ms Zee, i think there was a debate about this on Bella Naija after the interview which Maya claimed that the fabric originated from Holland.
I just checked up some history on Ankara fabric and its says it originated from Indonesia and another says in Europe.
There are many versions of the origin.Either way, it is apparent that somewhere along the line, they got inspired by African artefacts (tooth comb designs etc are found on some of these fabrics).

Whichever way Boxing Kitten has fabulous designs

  4. I am actually with Ms Zee on this one even though the collection s faboulous. I think african should start buying from african designers. Most of the time the designs are a bit pricey because they are not mass produces but that is not an excuse. We should start by blaming the African celebrities and first ladies who are not promoting their own

Things to do in Havana, Cuba

HELLO EVERYONE! Yes, I am screaming at the top of my lungs, as I haven't been in this space this year. First things first, how are you all coping with the pandemic? I hope you and your family are safe. It is a tough time for everyone, and I am hoping this passes away sooner than later.
Now on to today's post. Guys, last August I made it to my dream city, Havana! Cuba was a country that had rated high on my travel list for ages, but due to travel restrictions imposed on U.S. residents, I thought a visit there was impossible. This cannot be further from the truth, and I will explain the travel process in another blog post.
My time in Cuba was spent in 4 different cities, and I will be starting my Cuba travel series with Havana.Enjoy
1. Ride in a classic car --this is a must do The classic car rides are a fun way to see the city. We opted for a 2 hour ride, and we got to see China Town, Havana Vedado, Revolutionary Square, and John Lennon Park.

2. Visit Plaza de la Revolución Revoluti…

Confetti Fun

Hey chica, it's that time of the year again--my yearly birthday photoshoot! Whoop whoop!
In 2016, I did the Rose, Tulle, and Leather shoot, while 2015 was Colors and Balloons. The 2017 shoot was themed Ethreally mint, and last year was Wintery Black. This year I had an elaborate theme in mind, but due to time constraints, I wasn't able to pull it off. I ended up settling for something really simple and fun. And what's more fun than playing in colorful confetti.
Enjoy the photos.

That's all folks! What do you think of this year's birthday shoot?

Living Colorfully in Old Town Alexandria

Hey guys, happy humpday! Just two more days, and the weekend is here--whoop! Speaking about weekends, this past Saturday was a fun one! My cousin was visiting from Lagos, so we decided to take a train ride to Old Town, Alexandria in Virginia.
The day started with brunch, and ended with super fun vibrant colors we encountered all around Old Town Alexandria. I usually do not publish videos here, but we also took many cool videos and I couldn't resist not posting it here.
Enjoy... I have been to this restaurant several times, so once I got in, I found my way to this wall that I love so muc In addition to American dishes, Warehouse offers Cajun & Creole dishes. I love NOLA style food, so of course I had gumbo and beignets--it was yum! Now unto the streets Color makes me happy I have several photos in front of this vibrant Torpedo Art Factory wall Random More Randoms
